KlimaSOT - Scientific information channel about the climate in Albania
Climate change is underrepresented in Albanian media, with coverage often influenced by political and economic interests. The public’s understanding of the climate emergency is limited, with fragmented and outdated data on climate change and greenhouse gas emissions. Climate change discussions are emerging but remain in a nascent stage. To address this, journalists are encouraged to write climate-related articles and interview experts, highlighting Albania’s specific threats and challenges, and engaging younger audiences, the future stakeholders of climate study and policies.
Published articles on climate change and its impacts in Albania and globally enrich the media, making it a reference source on climate. Over three years, scientific information was sourced from 23 contributors, 7 national and international scientific journals, 9 scientific websites, and various international newspapers. The selection of material is guided by several key criteria. Firstly, the source must be accurate and scientific in nature. Secondly, it should primarily provide data relevant to Albania or the region. Thirdly, the study from which the data is derived must be recent. The originality of the news source is another crucial factor, as it confirms the authenticity of the information. Once the materials have been selected, they are processed into a language that is accessible to both journalists and the general public, before being published on our site. This rigorous process ensures that our portal continues to enrich the media landscape with high-quality, scientifically-sound information on climate change.
The “KlimaSOT” portal, addressing the public’s limited perception of climate change, has published 118 articles, primarily on climate change. These articles offer insights into its impacts.
